Online Division I - Ages 11 - 14 (Middle School)
What we're studying:
Currently we are studying the systems of the human body. Our Team Leader's favorite quote:
"Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Albert EinsteinWhy we think we should win:
We think that we should win because of all the effort we have put into this Rube Goldberg project. So many hours we've spent brainstorming ideas, building, and trying again and again to make hard parts cooperate. There are many driven individuals who have put many hours into this wonderful project that we are passionate about. We have had a marvelous time constructing this project, and perfecting it.Suggestion for next year's challenge:
Unscrew a screw, bowl a strike, cut a piece of paper, Dr. Seuss themed challenge (our school completed a school wide k-8 challenge with this is a theme)Favorite Rube Goldberg video:
Welcome to the Trinity Episcopal School Rube Goldberg machine. We have worked very hard to get this machine to function well and complete the task of erasing a chalkboard. We have sacrificed countless hours and weekends to get this machine to where it is today. We hope you appreciate our hard work and enjoy viewing our machine
Our Step List
Step 1: A little person zip lines from the top of the Burj Khalifa.
Step 2: The person hits a switch on the back of the London Eye, causing it to spin.
Step 3: As the London Eye spins, it knocks a car rolling down the Great Wall of China.
Step 4: The car rolls to the middle of the Great Wall, then hits a golfball.
Step 5: The golfball rolls down the remainder of the Great Wall, and knocks a weight off of the end of the Wall.
Step 6: As the weight falls, it lifts the end of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which is resting on top of the Eiffel Tower.
Step 7: As the Leaning Tower of Pisa tips, a marble rolls out of the other end.
Step 8: The marble then drops into the top of Mount Everest, and follows a track through the mountain until it comes out at the bottom of the mountain.
Step 9: The marble continues to follow a track through the White House and when it reaches the end, it hits a domino.
Step 10: The dominoes fall, going through the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Step 11: The dominoes hit. a battery, which rolls to the edge of the table and knocks a weight off of the edge.
Step 12: When the weight falls off the edge of the table, it hits a board. When it hits the board, it lifts the other side and releases a string.
Step 13: When the string is released, it allows a weight to drop.
Step 14: When the weight drops, it pulls down the lip of a bucket, which causes the water in the bucket to fall down Niagara Falls.
Step 15: The water then flows through a tube, and into a cup. The water weighs down the cup.
Step 16: As the water weighs down the cup, it pulls a string. The other side of the string is tied to the knob of a car remote control. So as the cup is weighed down the knob is pulled up, turning on the car.
Step 17: Once the car is turned on, it drives down the Autobahn with a string attached to it.
Step 18: When the string is pulled along with the car, it lowers the water balloon towards the board.
Step 19: When the water balloon hits the spikes on the board, it pops.
Step 20: When the balloon pops, the water spills out and erases the chalkboard.
