    What we're studying:
Proper ways to handle and use building materials and how to build things that perform a task. We are also learning about simple machines, compound machines, and chain reactions! This year we also learned about the great Rube Goldberg!

    Our Team Leader's favorite quote:
"We started out with seven people, one teacher, three pieces of plywood and no building experience. Look at us now!"

Why we think we should win:
Because we've worked hard through tough times and we believe that our machine really captures the wacky spirit of Rube Goldberg!

    Suggestion for next year's challenge:
We believe next years challenge should be to squirt a glob of ketchup on french fries.

    Favorite Rube Goldberg video:

Welcome to the home page of Gateway Middle School's Center Inventors. We have been working since December on this machine and we hope that our work has paid off. The theme of our machine is New York City as you see in the video we have created the New York City skyline with two additional panels attached to the machine. We hope you enjoy our video and we hope for good feedback and a good result. =)

    Our Step List

In our machine, we release a marble which goes through taped cardboard rolls. Then it goes through these cups and travels down a track. Then it hits the foam slope halfway down the first panel and travels down another track in the opposite direction. Then, it goes into a clear tube sloping downwards to vertical and hits some balsa wood. Then it travels through a horizontal funnel into a tube and lands in a gap which leads to a series of inclined planes. Another inclined plane with glued tubes is used as the marble travels into a bendable black tube. It goes down another glued tube inclined plane and hits a domino. A chain reaction is triggered as the dominoes travel in a V-shaped format. Then they hit the uphill cylinders which hits a car. The car travels forward and knocks more dominoes down a stair-like ramp, which makes a marble roll into a heavy ball that drops into a bucket on one end of the pulley. The other side of the pulley lifts and a baby shoe hits a platform where a big marble waits. The marble runs down a ramp and hits a piece of wood attached to the hammer. The hammer then falls forward on a wheel and axle and hits the nail. A checkered flag is placed right near the finishing point. The three panels are painted yellow, green and orange and the outside panels are painted like the NYC skyline. The insides of those panels are painted purple with silver foil for windows to look like the NYC skyline at night. The entire machine is built on an L-shaped frame that can stand upright. It is over 6 feet tall, 3 feet wide, and 4 feet deep!
