Welcome to a day at Dooley School! As you travel with us through a typical day at Dooley, you will invest in immeasurable learning! Why not experience Physical Education by playing basketball, soccer or golf down an incline plane? Do you like numbers? Measure an object with a ruler, or perhaps use dominoes to help you brush up on math facts. Speaking of brushes, do you like to paint? You can paint all the colors of the rainbow which are represented by the cylinder the marble goes down. Take a lunch break, refresh with water and a quick Oreo snack on our way up on the pulley! Why not play a note on our musical boomwacker? Reconnect with science and explore force and motion with our wheel and axle car. Extend your learning at home by reading a book about Rube Goldberg machines, and sketch out your steps on paper! Let’s not forget Dooley is also home to the Japanese dual language program. Our Rube Goldberg goal is to drop a coin in a piggy bank; thus, we have a Japanese coin (yen) that symbolizes every students’ investment in their learning.

Our Step List

Step 1: Marble goes through screw.

Step 2: Marble continues through zigzag, drops through cylinder.

Step 3: Marble travels down inclined plane.

Step 4: The marble hits the other marble in the wheel and axle.

Step 5: Marble hits the P.E. balls down the inclined plane.

Step 6: P.E. balls hits water bottle hooked to pulley.

Step 7: Oreo cup goes up and hits the platform.

Step 8: The movement of the platform initiates the car to travel down the inclined plane, which initiates the motion of the dominoes hitting the golf ball.

Step 9: The golf ball drops onto the lever, which propels the lever up.

Step 10: The lever pulls the string, which causes the coin to drop into piggy bank.
