Apply A BAND-AID®
Online Division I - Ages 11 - 14 (Middle School)
David Bozzuto/ Christine Melagrano
What we're studying:
How to create a space themed Rube Goldberg device, that can transfer energy from point A to point B, and place a bandaid on a surface.
Our Team Leader's favorite quote:
"Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential."
Why we think we should win:
We think we should win, because of our creative design, theme, and effort.
Suggestion for next year's challenge:
We suggest that next year the groups must be members from the same team so everybody gets maximum collaboration time.
Favorite Rube Goldberg video:
Our Rube Goldberg is a combination of simple machines, and space themed objects. We included items such as cardboard, paper towel tubes, ramps, string, wood, and other everyday items. We then decorated the item to fit our theme, and set them up to trigger each other and eventually achieve the goal of applying a bandaid to any surface.
Our Step List
Knock down first piece of wood.
Second piece of wood is knocked onto board, and increases weight.
The foot pedal of the garbage can is pushed down, and the lid opens.
Rocket ship toy is pulled up.
Tennis ball is knocked off the cardboard box.
Tennis ball slides down clear string.
The tennis ball hits the wheel, and sends it rolling down the ramp.
Wheel knocks into the cup holding a marble.
The marble rolls down the funnel and down the ramp, then is sent into the paper towel tube.
The marble travels under the first CD, and then knocks over the other.
CD applies the band aid onto the ‘space helmet’
