Why we think we should win:
We think we should win because we have learned to work in cooperative teams while we have studied simple machines, designed a machine building plan, sketched our plan, constructed our machine, and ran many trials until we constructed a machine that runs successfully.

Wantagh Middle School Horizons is very proud to have you visit our page. We have decided to open an old fashion candy shoppe that features some of our favorite treats. At the end of every day when we close up our shop, we clean everything up. After cleaning, we like to have fun while we start a series of chain reactions that will erase our chalkboard with the day’s specials. First, someone allows a gumball to roll out of the machine. It rolls through a series of ramps and levers while more and more gumballs, jawbreakers, and other candies fall and roll along too. Different simple machines such as levers, pulleys, inclined planes and screws are scattered through the shop which the candies fall onto and roll about. All because of this one gumball, an eraser will erase our chalkboard. Since our chalkboard is finally erased, we can lock up for the night. We have all of these different contraptions and steps set up to do one simple task… Erase our chalkboard. We hope you enjoy our presentation and visit Candy Shoppe again soon!

Our Step List

Step 1:The ball is released and then rolls through a tube.
Step 2: The ball then rolls down 2 inclined planes.
Step 3: The ball flies off the second inclined plane and hits a lever.
Step 4: The lever spins around a fulcrum, which pulls a string that is attached to a candy that is blocking a ball.
Step 5: As the candy gets pulled by the string, it lifts and releases a ball.
Step 6: The ball rolls down a frame and falls through the gap.
Step 7: The ball then hits a domino which falls off the inclined plane and pulls a string.
Step 8: As the string is pulled is pulls out a blockade that was blocking a ball.
Step 9: The ball is released and rolls down an inclined plane and into a tube.
Step 10: From the tube, the ball rolls down a ramp and hits a lever.
Step 11: The lever swings and hits a ball at the top of the next inclined plane.
Step 12: The ball rolls down that inclined plane and hits another lever.
Steps 13-17: This action is repeated 5 more times through the series of slanted inclined planes. This causes the action to move back toward the top of the machine.
Step 18: The last ball in this sequence falls into a bucket, which then pulls a string.
Step 19: As the string is pulled, it releases a hanging lollipop.
Step 20: The swinging lollipop hits a large candy ball.
Step 21: The large candy ball rolls down the inclined plane and hits a large lollipop.
Step 22: The lollipop swings around on a hinge and hits a large candy ball.
Step 23: The large candy ball rolls down a final inclined plane and falls into a bucket.
Step 24: The bucket falls and is attached to a string that is on a pulley system.
Step 25: As the string gets pulled, the wet sponge is pulled up while it erases the chalkboard.
