What we're studying:

Why we think we should win:
We used simple machines such as inclined plane, wedge, wheel and axle, lever, etc. to create a machine that used gravity as it power and staying with the theme of our machine.

Suggestion for next year's challenge:

Our machine use various simple machines like inclined planes, levers, pulleys, wheel and axle, etc. to complete an entertaining assignment of steps to pour a bowl of cereal while taking on the recent theme of the Winter Olympics.

Our Step List

1.) Olympic theme music plays pushing ball away from speaker
2.) ball rolls down ramp hitting wooden spoon
3.) spoon pivots pushing on fan (lighting of the Olympic torch) and pushes weight off raising American Flag.
4.) the other end of spoon also pulls string attached to flap that starts the bobsled down the course.
5.) At the finish the bobsled hits a stop string pulling up a flap triggering an avalanche of marbles out of a tube into a funnel
6.) exiting the funnel the marbles are directed into a cup, the weight causes the cup to fall, creating the pulling of a magnet under the hockey rink causing a shot at the goal.
7.) After the shot the cup triggers a release for the 8-ball to roll down the ramp into a clear tennis ball container.
8.) the weight of the 8-ball causes the container to separate an roll down a ramp tilted the opposite direction
9.) the 8-ball then rolls out of the container and into a pvc elbow through a pipe and runs into the Olympic podium
10.) the podium falls over pulling a string causing the Curling rock to slide towards the bullseye
11.) the podium collapse also triggers the release of the automoblox
12.) the automoblox runs down the ramp pulling another string
13.) which causes the figure skater to skate across the ice.
14.) the automoblox hits a trigger at the end of the ramp releasing the ski jumper.
15.) the ski jumper (zip line) jumps across the machine landing to trip the trigger holding a ball on a paint can
16.) the paint can ball rolls down the ramp triggering another ball to roll the opposite direction
17.) that ball rolls into a cup forcing the cup to drop off the edge of the table
18.) attached to a string the force of the cup pulls the string releasing the snow boarder on a pulley
19.) The snow boarder goes down the course and at the end trips another string
20.) the string attached to a mouse trap engages the mouse trap
21.) the mouse trap pulls a string attached to a wooden spoon swinging the spoon
22.) the spoon hits a pool ball knocking down a gutter spout
23.) the pool ball comes out the gutter spout and is deflected into a cup attached to a bicycle wheel
24.) the bicycle wheel turns from the weight of the ball bringing with it a cereal box
25.) the cereal box rotates until it is upside down pouring the cereal into the bowl
