Inflate A Balloon and Pop It!
Online Division I - Ages 11 - 14 (Middle School)
Team Leader: Lynda Yearwood
Team Members: 8

    What we're studying:
    EVERYTHING!

    Our Team Leader's favorite quote:
When the paint has the consistency of shaving cream it's very hard to paint a golf course.

Why we think we should win:
If fun had in building it and the hard work put in to produce it at all equate the to the quality of the final product - our machine must be the best.

    Welcome to the PACE Carnival!

    Our Step List

    1. Team Member (Lilli) inserts one quarter into coin slot in wooden board.
    2. Coin goes through slot and rolls down a slit in a slanted wooden two-by-four
    3. Coin emerges from `coin ramp`slit and knocks over the first domino in a series of six
    4. All six dominoes are knocked on an upward slant in front of a backdrop of an ascending
    roller coaster
    5. Sixth domino knocks miniature clown character (the clown is painted on an upside-down
plastic cup that contains a large marble)
    6. Clown (with marble underneath) rolls downwards along `clown ramp` while rocking side
to side in a clown-like manner
    7. Clown stops rolling at end of ramp
    8. Marble drops through a slot into a slanted triangular `funnel`
    9. Marble rolls through funnel and into a bowl that is attached to a pulley system
    10. Marble drop offsets the pulley balance and releases a bottle of mustard from the top of a
    large, hollow foam hot dog
    11. Mustard bottle had been holding a small marble in place at the top of the cylindrical tube
    within the hot dog
    12. Marble is released and rolls inside down length of hot dog
    13. Marble is released into a series of zigzagging cups on a downward slope representing a
    waterslide
    14. Marble emerges from waterslide into a plastic tube (representing an elephant`s trunk on
    a face)
    15. Marble emerges from tube (trunk) onto a mini golf putting green and knocks the black
golf ball, releasing it down the putting green
    16. Golf ball drops into the putting green`s hole, landing on power bar switch
    17. Power bar turns on air compressor, which fills balloon with air
    18. Golf ball continues rolling and triggers release of golf club
    19. Golf club kicks over swinging pirate ship (meant to represent swinging pirate ship
amusement park ride): pirate ship has a needle attached to its bow
    20. Balloon continues to inflate as pirate ship needle swings and pops it
