Why we think we should win:
OLT should win this competition because we are a resourceful group of young women who have been passionate about STEM and engineering throughout our high school careers. This competition has taught us so much about mechanics, and improvising things that do not work. We have learned how to be resourceful, and work with what we have at our all girls school in Little Village, Chicago. Students at a community like ours rarely have the opportunity to achieve their goals, especially in STEM fields. Our all girl education allows us to pursue careers that we are passionate about, and it encourages us to follow our dreams. We are all exhilarated to be in this competition and, hopefully, win.

Favorite Rube Goldberg video:

Our machine is set using the famous video game Mario Kart. The race track we chose for this is rainbow road where we included goombas, turtle shells, and even clouds. We painted used Jenga blocks to be colorful dominos and made a runway for the ball using donated legos.

Our Step List

Step 1: The car is turned on by an entity pushing its button down
Step 2: The car goes around the course and knocks over a jenga block with the pencil taped at the top of the car
Step 3: The Jenga block creates a domino reaction and hits a ball
Step 4: The force of the jenga block forces the ball to roll down a path and fall into a cup
Step 5: The ball adds weight to the cup and pulls the cup down
Step 6: The cup being attached to the string of the lamp, pulls down the chain and turns off the lamp
