What we're studying:
Electromagnetic Rays

Our Team Leader's favorite quote:
"If you woke up without a dream, go back to sleep."

Why we think we should win:
We are very determined to win and we put a lot of effort into this. We meet 2-3 days a week after-school, during homeroom, Study Hall, on Sundays, and during Science class because we tested out. It is our first year participating in this challenge and all of our hard work would pay off if we won. This is only our 2nd Rube Goldberg that we've ever made. We just learned about Rube Goldberg machines about a month ago. We have really come together and we are very proud of what we have accomplished. And, of course, the majority of this machine is held together with duct tape and hot glue! Who doesn't love those two materials?

Suggestion for next year's challenge:
How to tie a necktie.

Our Step List

Step 1. We use mechanical energy to push a ruler that sets off the dominoes up a staircase of books.

Step 2. The last domino falls off the books, which pulls the stopper and releases the car down the zipline.

Step 3. That car knocks over a domino, which pushes over a marble. The marble falls down the funnel to a pipe insulation track toward the next set of dominoes.

Step 4. This last domino in this series falls off of the shelf, which pulls down the switch to complete a circuit that turns on the motor.

Step 5. The motor has a fin that propels a marble toward yet another series of dominoes.

Step 6. Those dominoes push two marbles down a shoot that drops one marble down the next track.

Step 7. At the end of the track, a set of dominoes are pushed over, the last which is attached to a piece of cardboard. That cardboard is separating the funnel filled with baking soda from the beaker filled with vinegar.

Step 8. The last domino that is connected to the cardboard falls off the shelf and removes the cardboard, allowing the baking soda and vinegar to mix.

Step 9. Once the baking soda and vinegar mix, they overflow and trigger the spoon pinwheel, which is holding a marble.

Step 10. Once the marble is released down the shoot, it hits a domino that is connected to three weights. The weights fall off of the counter and lead to the next step.

Step 11. The weight from the last step pulls the dumbbells off of the shelf and pulls the string through the pulley.

Step 12. The string is connected to the zipper and as the weights fall, the zipper is completely zipped
