We hope everyone enjoys our Rube Goldberg device. The students worked hard for months to perfect the machine.
Our Step List
To start the device the line of dominoes is pushed at the beginning. The dominoes then trigger the mousetrap which hits the scissors cutting the string holding the rubber band. The rubber band launches the glider. Attached to the glider is a 4’ string which has a toothpick tied to the end. The glider pulls out the toothpick from under the hinge which is holding the 3 steel balls. The steel balls drop which lifts the syringe filled with water. As the syringe rises the water is released through the tube which comes out of the stuffed dog. The water leaves the dog and enters the pipe. The water leaves the pipe and goes into the cup which drops and raises a piece of wood. The wood triggers the switch which starts the motor on the marble rack. The motor pushes the device down the track by spinning the propeller. The device pushes a marble ahead of it. The marble gets pushed over the edge and goes down the rack. The device triggers a mousetrap which turns off the motor. The marble goes down the rack and then goes down the ramp, hitting dominoes. The dominoes trigger another mouse trap which turns on the pulley which pulls up a piece of craft stick that holds back the tennis ball. The tennis ball is released down the ramp. On its way it triggers a switch which stops the pulley from turning. The tennis ball passes through the tunnel and hits Newton’s Cradle. The ball from the cradle swings and hits a large marble which travels through the pipe elbow triggering the dominoes. The dominoes travel up the ramp and hit a marble putting it in motion. The marble closes a switch which sends electricity to a small wire. The wire causes a short circuit which allows the wire to get red hot and melting the fishing line. The weights are released and pull up the zipper. It’s as easy as that.
