Our machine is called Pollution Institution. We have used everyday items that would otherwise be considered garbage. Our goal is to bring attention to the type of trash that can end up in our ocean gyres and impact marine animals. This machine uses a series of different events that incorporates marbles, ramps, a mouse trap, a zipline, and imbalance forces to open the umbrella.

Our Step List

1.Push lever which pushes balls into tubes
2. One ball gets stopped by a card
3. The other ball drops into a tube
4. The ball then hits the “broken toy piece” object connected to a zip line
5. The “broken toy piece” object zip lines down
6. The “broken toy piece” object then hits a “wooden T piece” lever
7. The “wooden T piece” lever releases a different marble
8. The marble hits another marble
9. The marble drops down to another track
10.The marble then rolls down
11. The marble then hits another marble
12. The marble knocks down a yo yo
13. The marble that hits the yo yo drops down to another track
14. The yoyo falls and pulls the card
15. The card releases the marble in the beginning
16. The marble rolls down a tube
17. The marble then hits a bigger ball filled with sand
18. The ball filled with sand rolls down a tube
19. (continuing from step 13) The marble rolls down the track going through turns
20. It then rolls on top of a mouse trap
21. The mousetrap releases and lets the string go
22. This causes less tension so the gallon of water falls of the stand
23. (while step 19-22) The sand ball hits a Coca Cola bottle filled with sand
24. The bottle falls over
25. It then jerks the bigger bottle filled with sand
26. The big bottle falls over
27.The gallon of water jerks on a rope which is connected to the umbrella
28.The big bottle of sand jerks on a rope that is also connected to the umbrella
29.The umbrella opens because of all the tension.
