What we're studying:
Science - Machines, levers, forces, speed and acceleration
Maths - Translations, speed, probability
DT - Textiles, resistant materials, properties of materials

Our Team Leader's favorite quote:
"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known."

- Carl Sagan

Why we think we should win:
- We worked as a team.
- We were inventive.
- We used our knowledge of science, maths, and DT to create a working machine.
- We used many different styles of steps.
- We worked hard for months after school and independently.

Suggestion for next year's challenge:
Raise a flag

Pip pip cheerio from jolly ole England!

Our Step List

The aim of the Rube Goldberg challenge was to make an overcomplicated machine, which will do a simple thing. We worked as a team to come up with these steps:

1.) Using hydraulics, a collection of golf balls are dispersed down a ramp.
2.) The number of golf balls used increases the probability of the next step being triggered, leaving little to chance. One of the golf balls hits a block of wood, which pulls a roll of sellotape down.
3.) Held behind the sellotape is a marble, which will go down a track.
4.) The marble rolls down the track, which will then hit a trail of dominoes.
5.) The dominoes fall over and push a glue stick, which is balancing on a domino.
6.) The glue stick will fall over, and knock over a plank of wood.
7.) The wood pushes a polystyrene cup which is holding a weight. The weight gets pushed off, and lands on a dynamics trolley.
8.) The car goes forward and pushes another weight. The weight is the “hammer.”
9.) The “hammer” slides down a piece of guttering.
10.) The “hammer” nails the nail in!!
